Our Story
Independent since 2006. Reimagined in 2026.
Originally opened in July 2006 by Catherine and Jacqui, The Left Bank arrived on Gibson Street with ideas the West End hadn’t quite seen yet: a globally-inspired menu built around the freshest locally sourced ingredients, and an eclectic natural wine list. The bar kicked off the brunch scene with staples like the legendary Lebanese breakfast and eggs mornay. Both are still on the menu to this day. It also pioneered dedicated menus for vegans and those with gluten intolerance, and it’s always been dog-friendly. Over twenty years, The Left Bank has earned its place as a West End institution, and held it, as plenty of other places came and went.
The Left Bank relaunched in May 2026 under new ownership: Jim McLaughlin and David Low, both West End locals. David has been a quiet investor in Glasgow hospitality for years. Previously owning McPhabb’s, The Arlington and Dram. We’re keeping it independent, keeping the kitchen open seven days, keeping the bar open till 1am every day. We’ve also built something new on top: a room arranged around music.
This is Glasgow’s first late-night vinyl listening bar. The interior has been refreshed but the bones are the same. Smart lighting moves the room from day to night. At the centre of it sits a vintage Bose setup, fed by Technics turntables and an Ecler rotary mixer, installed in the main bar and in the listening room. Programming is vinyl first, played properly, on a system built around Amar Bose’s idea that immersion comes from reflected sound spread across a whole space.
A room built for music. The system we’ve built makes the music feel alive wherever you’re standing. Not louder, not bigger. Just in the room. The kind of sound you can talk over and still feel.
Jim has DJ’d in Glasgow for over two decades as Jim Da Best. Fridays and Saturdays we hand the decks to selectors we know, trust, and have spent years dancing in front of. The records are chosen. The lighting is chosen. The drinks are chosen.
Music and atmosphere first. The rest follows.
Doors open in the morning. The room comes alive at night.
